Newton Networks — Registration and Community Agreement
Last updated: 25 October 2026
1. Scope and operator
This community is operated by Dave Newton under the Newton Networks name at newtonnetworks.co.uk. It supports Bespoke Laser Engraving — Coin Edition, Bespoke Security for Windows and its optional Firefox Companion, including discussions, demonstrations, downloads and updates. Contact: support@newtonnetworks.co.uk. Read the separate Privacy Notice for details of personal information and storage. Acknowledging that notice does not consent to unrelated data uses.
2. Accounts and conduct
Provide registration details you are entitled to use and keep your login credentials secure. Do not impersonate another person, misuse an account or disclose another person's private information. Keep posts lawful, respectful and relevant. No harassment, threats, spam, malicious files, credential theft or advertising without permission. Access, posting and moderation privileges depend on your assigned roles and board permissions. Administrators may moderate content or restrict accounts where reasonably necessary to enforce these rules or protect the service; contact the operator to query a moderation decision.
3. Your images, files and conversations
You retain your rights in material you contribute. Only upload images, portraits, designs, reports and files you are entitled to use and share. Private uploads do not automatically become public or grant other members a reuse licence.
By deliberately posting or sharing content, you allow the service to store and display it to the audience you choose or the audience allowed by that board. Deliberately shared workshop files may be downloaded and used by that audience in their own projects, including engraving, unless an explicitly agreed restriction applies. Do not share a file on that basis if you lack permission. Newton Networks software and third-party material remain subject to their own release/licence terms; a download or public attachment is not a blanket permission to redistribute or modify everything on the site.
A topic is a conversation that may appear in relevant timelines. Removing material after others have replied can require administrator review to preserve their contributions. Removal stops future access through the relevant share but cannot recall copies already downloaded. Personal-data requests are handled under the Privacy Notice and applicable rights, not solely under these moderation rules.
4. Coin Edition
Coin Edition helps prepare artwork, height maps and previews for laser engraving and related export workflows, including use alongside compatible software such as LightBurn. It does not replace your engraver's instructions, material testing or calibration. Previews, depth displays and pass estimates are guides; output depends on source information, settings, machine and material. Converting an 8-bit source to a 16-bit working file does not recover missing detail. Inspect exports before use and keep originals/backups when needed. Applying a crop or edit can replace the working/master image as indicated on screen. Availability of formats and features depends on the release.
5. Bespoke Security and responsible testing
Bespoke Security brings Windows network diagnostics into a visual interface: tools may include ping/routes, TCP ports, website/DNS/IP checks, maps, local connections, Wi-Fi comparison and FTP access. Use tools only on systems/networks you own or have permission to test, and respect destination/provider rules. A publicly reachable address or open port is not permission to access private files, bypass authentication, exploit a service or disrupt it. FTP access requires the owner's permitted anonymous access or valid authorised credentials.
Results are observations, not guarantees of safety, compromise, ownership or exact physical location. Standard port labels suggest common services and do not prove what is running. Missing ping replies do not necessarily mean a host is offline. Network paths, CDN locations, firewalls and test conditions affect comparisons. Download samples estimate transfer performance for that request, not guaranteed maximum line speed.
6. Firefox Companion and reports
The Companion is optional and needs the user's deliberate connection to the local Windows app. Read its disclosure and permissions before connecting. Monitoring can reveal browsing hostnames and connection details; obtain the appropriate permission before observing someone else's activity. Disconnect through its popup when finished. Saved reports can contain sensitive network information; review/redact them before posting. Neither registration nor installation authorises monitoring other people without permission.
7. Downloads, development and updates
These apps are under active development. Read each release's instructions, supported environment and known limitations. Features and file formats can change. Obtain official releases through the Newton Networks download/update area and associated official distribution links; member attachments are not automatically official releases. The update account identifies official announcements. Keep backups of work you need to retain. No promise is made that a temporary/guest session removes every operating-system, browser, server or backup trace. Separate release/licence terms apply where supplied. Nothing in this agreement excludes statutory rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. External services and future features
Facebook sign-in, Firefox/Mozilla distribution, external websites, diagnostic providers and FTP servers are separate services with their own rules and privacy information. The forum does not automatically synchronise Facebook friendships or blocks. Business profile sections and embedded websites require administrator approval. Proposed AI, school/teacher controls, paid services or other future features are not promised as available merely because they are discussed. Any new data use or service terms will be explained before introduction.
9. Changes and contact
Material changes will be dated and communicated through the forum; where necessary an updated agreement may be presented before continued use. Questions, support and moderation/privacy enquiries: support@newtonnetworks.co.uk.

Newton Networks — Privacy Notice
Last updated: 25 October 2026
1. Who operates these services
Dave Newton operates Newton Networks at newtonnetworks.co.uk, including the community forum, Bespoke Laser Engraving — Coin Edition, and downloads/support for Bespoke Security and its Firefox Companion. Privacy contact: use Contact Dave Newton at the end of this notice. This notice explains the forum and the current development software; individual releases may contain additional feature-specific information.
2. The important distinction
Forum accounts, posts, attachments and work saved to the forum are held on the hosting service. Bespoke Security runs on your Windows computer. Its diagnostic reports and Firefox observations are not automatically uploaded to Newton Networks. If you email a report, attach it to a post or share a screenshot, the information you choose to send becomes information we receive. Network tests still contact the destinations and service providers needed to perform those tests.
3. Forum membership and support
We store your account name, email, authentication records, preferences, profile details you provide, posts, replies, reactions, buddy-list information, uploaded files and support correspondence. Technical/security records may include IP address, request time, browser information and requested pages/downloads. Required registration information enables account access and recovery; without it we cannot provide a normal member account. Optional profile details need not be supplied. Public areas and downloads may be accessible without an account.
Account administration, requested storage and member features are processed as necessary to provide the membership service (contract). Security, moderation, fault investigation and handling support requests rely on legitimate interests in running a safe, functioning community. Applicable legal obligations may require particular records to be kept or disclosed. A privacy acknowledgement is not blanket consent to unrelated uses.
4. Coin Edition: images and projects
Coin Edition processes the images and projects you import, crop, edit, preview and export. Browser processing/storage and forum-side saving are different: work saved to your forum account is stored on the host; downloads/exports are saved through your browser to your device. An applied crop or image edit may replace the working/master image; follow the on-screen warning and keep your own original where needed.
Private saved work is not automatically published. Administrators can access hosted records and files for administration and support. Deliberate gallery sharing, posts and profile choices determine who can view associated material; discussion-board permissions separately control conversations. Shared material may contain names, faces, image metadata or other identifying details. Only upload material you are entitled to use and share. No permission to use private uploads for advertising or AI training is granted merely by registering.
5. Bespoke Security: local diagnostics
Depending on the tools you run, local results may include entered domains/URLs, resolved IP addresses, routes and gateways, DNS details, response times, port/service observations, connection/process information and Wi-Fi adapter, network-name, BSSID, signal and channel details. Saved settings, logs, snapshots, comparison files, screenshots and reports can retain these details on your computer. Windows-generated Wi-Fi reports are separate files. Closing or removing the app does not guarantee removal of Windows, browser, server, backup or downloaded-file records. Review exported reports before sharing them.
Tests communicate with your selected targets and configured network services. DNS queries go to the resolver used by the computer/network. IP-location lookups send the IP being looked up to ipwho.is. The optional download comparison sample contacts speed.cloudflare.com. Public-IP tests through the Companion contact api.ipify.org as well as the chosen test destination. Search links can send your search terms to Google; FTP connections send the requested server the connection/login information required for access. Plain FTP is not encrypted; use an appropriate secure connection when credentials require protection. External sites and network operators can see ordinary connection/request information, including the public IP used to reach them, and may retain it under their own policies. Location and route results are estimates, not proof of a person's location or activity.
6. Firefox Companion
The Companion is optional. Reporting starts when you confirm its disclosure and connect to the Windows app's pairing address. While connected, ordinary HTTP/HTTPS request observations include hostnames, available remote IPs, timing, status, request type/count and available proxy details. These observations are sent to the paired local app at 127.0.0.1, not to a Newton Networks reporting server.
Ordinary observation excludes page paths/query strings, page contents, request bodies, cookies and authentication headers. Explicit website/public-IP tests additionally return the test URL and outcome to the local app. Private browsing is disabled in the supplied Companion. Protected Firefox pages or some connection details may be unavailable. The Companion stores its pairing address in extension storage and keeps queued observations/test state in memory. Disconnect stops reporting and clears queued observations; closing Firefox stops it, and a new browser session requires reconnecting. Disable/remove the add-on to stop its operation. Saved desktop reports must be managed separately. The supplied Companion has no developer telemetry, advertising or analytics endpoint.
7. Visibility and recipients
Public forum posts, replies and attachments can be read or downloaded by visitors and may be copied or indexed. Restricted areas follow their access permissions. Staff access is limited by their roles; administrators manage the host-side service. Do not post passwords, private pairing addresses, confidential network reports or other people's personal information unnecessarily. Removing a post/share cannot recall copies already downloaded.
Krystal provides hosting. Meta operates optional Facebook sign-in and profile-photo delivery. If you choose Facebook sign-in, the integration uses the app-specific identifier and available name, email and public photo to recognise/link your account; an existing chosen forum avatar is preserved. Sign-in tokens are used during authentication rather than retained by this integration. It does not import Facebook friends, blocks, timeline or photo collections. Facebook and native forum relationships are separate. Mozilla operates Firefox/add-on distribution. External links, embeds, images, search/test providers and FTP servers are operated separately. Information intentionally sent to them is subject to their notices. We may disclose records where legally required or necessary to investigate abuse.
8. Cookies, device storage and international services
Essential session/security cookies support sign-in and requested forum functions. Browser storage retains display/workshop state. Forum-to-workshop image transfers use local IndexedDB, expire after one hour and are removed when consumed. Clearing site storage can remove unsaved work/preferences. The Companion uses Firefox extension storage for pairing. Third-party sign-in, linked media and explicitly opened sites can involve their own cookies/storage.
Providers such as Meta and external diagnostic services may process requests outside the UK. Those providers' notices describe their locations and transfer arrangements; contact us for information about transfers arranged by Newton Networks. We do not claim that every third-party service or installed extension makes no external requests. Any new optional analytics, advertising or external AI processing requires appropriate information and any required choice before it starts.
9. Retention and deletion
Accounts and saved forum work are retained while needed to provide the account/storage service, until removed, or until a deletion request is resolved. Posts and replies may need moderation review to protect other contributors' rights and the integrity of conversations; retention is not an unlimited entitlement to keep personal information. Support/security records are retained only while needed to resolve the issue, investigate abuse, protect the service or meet a legal obligation. Hosting logs and backups follow the host's retention cycle; ask us for the current applicable details. We have not verified a fixed host-wide number of days and do not promise one here. Deleted material can remain in backups until they expire.
Local Windows/Firefox records remain under your control and the relevant system's storage rules. Disconnecting does not erase previously saved reports. We cannot remotely delete files on your computer or copies held by another recipient.
10. Your choices and rights
Where applicable, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of personal data held by Newton Networks. You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests; contact support@newtonnetworks.co.uk and explain the processing concerned. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Rights have applicable limits; we may need to verify ownership and explain any refusal or retained records. Use the site's Data requests link or the contact above. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
We do not sell uploaded workshop files or diagnostic reports. These services do not make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you. Any future school/managed deployment, paid service or materially different data use requires its own appropriate arrangements and updated information before introduction. Material changes to this notice will be dated and communicated through the forum.
